Ormonde Wind Farm

Discipline: Offshore Wind

Client: Vattenfall

The Ormonde wind farm site is located 9.5km offshore in the Irish Sea, 10km from the coastline of Barrow-in-Furness in the north west of England. The site contains 30 x 5MW repower Turbines in a depth of 25m of water. ode undertook the Front-end engineering design (FEED) and detail engineering design of the offshore transformer platform for Vattenfall's Ormonde Project. ode was also responsible for overall Project Management on behalf of Vattenfall, covering all major implementation packages for the design, construction and installation of the development.

There were a number of major successes from this project for ode, most notably that the WTG assembly was delivered 1 month ahead of schedule, equipment that was valued at hundreds of millions of dollars suffered less than 10 thousand dollars of damage and that in 2 million manhours there was no major safety or environmental incident. Alongside these achievements the project also finished early and on budget demonstrating that the initial FEED that was undertaken was correct.

The BBC recently carried a feature on the construction of Ormonde on news bulletins and its website:
