Detailed Engineering for MFP topsides

Detailed Description:

Background

Two Minimum Facilities Platforms (MFP) Shell Cutter & NAM K17a are to be to be installed in the SNS and Dutch sectors. The unique design for these Ultra MFPs provides for minimum intervention, requiring no helideck or TSR, and uses renewable power supply and LOS controls. The substructure consists of a monopile containing 4 well slots. The topsides has five levels with wellheads on two levels to permit the close slot centres required to fit inside the monopile. The two platforms are conceptual similar but have differences in control philosophies and chemical injection plus smaller changes to satisfy the different regulatory regimes.

The concept has been developed by Shell from their trident MFP design used on Skiff and Brigantine. Shell has let a EPCI contract to Genius Vos for the two platforms where the substructure design has been completed previously.

Scope of Work

ode's scope, (as sub-contractor to Genius Vos, a Dutch fabricator based in IJmuiden), is the detailed engineering of the topsides for the two Platforms.

The engineering was started in ode's Kingston office and the engineering team transferred to Holland to be integrated into the Genius Vos project team. The engineering team will remain in Holland until the completion of the detail design in February 2005.

The engineering included:-

  • Full process verification and development of operating procedures.
  • Safety evaluations and HAZOP analysis.
  • Construction of a 3-D PDMS model to develop the piping arrangement and construct isometrics and piping GAs.
  • Piping stress analysis and PED dossier.
  • Detail design of platform to incorporate the controls and telecoms packages.
  • Design of the renewable electricity skids and integration into the platform.
  • Structural analysis of the topsides for in-place and temporary conditions.
  • Detail design of the primary and secondary structures and development of construction drawings.

In addition ode provided support services to Shell for project permits and consents in both the UK and Dutch sectors.
