Project Description :

Development of Decommissioning Costs for Platforms in Egypt, assessment of legal framework of decommissioning requirements

Location :

Offshore Egypt

Services Provided :

Scope, Cost and Schedule estimates

Detailed Description :

An oil company with assets offshore Egypt required an assessment of the provision that should be made for the future decommissioning of its platforms, pipelines and terminals in the region.

ode carried out a review of the international, regional and local legislation controlling the decommissioning of these assets.

Work breakdown structures were developed for the decommissioning activities required for 3 “typical” offshore structures, wells and associated pipelines.

Estimates of the expected cost and schedule to complete the decommissioning activities based on the use of North Sea practices for P&A of the wells, platform preparation for removal, diving operations, lifting operations and pipeline removal.

The same work breakdown structures were used by consultants with extensive experience of Gulf of Mexico practices to produce comparable estimates. The differences in working practices, contracting strategies, and the technical requirements for well abandonment were highlighted.
