Detailed Description :

Background

Interconnector UK is the operator of the subsea pipeline connecting the gas transmission systems between the United Kingdom and mainland Continental Europe. The pipeline interfaces with the onshore terminals at Bacton and Zeebrugge where reception and compression facilities handle the onward transmission to/from the national grids. Gas can flow in either direction depending on specific import/export requirements.

Scope of Work

ode has been awarded the contract for the provision of engineering and consultancy services for production, operations and safety enhancements to the facilities at both the Bacton and Zeebrugge Terminals. This has entailed an initial evaluation survey of both sites and the preparation of a detailed report containing recommendations for future reliability improvements and operational enhancements. Subsequent activities have included the implementation of the above referenced recommendations along with day-to-day troubleshooting and facilities engineering upgrades.

Specific examples of work scopes include the following:

  • A review of the Bacton and Zeebrugge terminals for general compliance with operational requirements and engineering standards.
  • Reliability, availability and maintenance review of the Bacton Terminal.
  • Process capacity review of the Bacton Terminal for bottleneck identification.
  • Review of the Zeebrugge control room for air conditioning requirements.
  • SIL (Systems Integrity Level) analysis of the Bacton and Zeebrugge Terminals.
  • Hazardous area review of the Bacton and Zeebrugge Terminals.
  • Review of the NOx (Nitrogen Oxides) emission reduction for the Bacton Terminal in accordance with the BATNEEC (Best Available Technology Not Entailing Excessive Costs) policy.
  • Study of the man machine interfaces for the Bacton Compressors.
