The object of the study was to determine the feasibility and costs involved with the total abandonment of MCP-01.

The following tasks listed below outlined the scope of work agreed with Total Oil Marine for the contents of the report.

  • a) Identification of abandonment options, by reference to both a prior study for the CDP1 platform and by taking account of latest technical procedures/equipment.
  • b) Full illustration of technical methods of removal/disposal of both topsides and substructure.
  • c) Detailed review of topside decommissioning including shutdown, immobilising, purging, cleaning, dismantling and the removal of process equipment.
  • d) Thorough investigation into the current legislation pertaining to platform abandonment.
  • e) Provision of work schedules and cost estimates for each abandonment option.
  • f) Detailed project report and client presentations.

Realistic cost estimates and projected work schedules derived from research into platform abandonment were listed for financial account purposes and presented in tabular form.

The report gave guidance on current technical procedure, equipment and legislation applicable to the project. Options for further work were identified and discussed.

From the various combined options, three selections in order of preference were identified based on cost, duration and feasibility.
