Project Description :

Hewett to LAPS (Lancelot Area Production System) Crossover Facility

Location :

Tullow Oil Gas Terminal, Bacton, Norfolk

Services Provided :

Engineering, Procurement, Installation & Commissioning

Detailed Description :

This contract comprised a fast-track (<16 weeks), brownfield, modification project at the Tullow Oil Bacton Gas Terminal, aimed at providing increased operational flexibility and utilisation of installed compressor horsepower through the provision of the Hewett to LAPS Crossover Facility. While the main work-scope was predominantly mechanical/pipe-work fabrication and installation activities, the Work Package also contained significant systems (Automations) related modifications relating to the plant control and safety systems; turbine control systems; fiscal metering and production allocation systems.

The work was scheduled for completion during the LAPS and Hewett summer shutdowns scheduled for 17th-24th August and 24th-30th August 2004, respectively.

The execution strategy was based upon 100% offsite fabrication, NDE and testing of pre-fabricated pipe-spools in order to eliminate the need for site-based hot-work, radiography and proof testing.

Hot-tap tie-ins were made on both the LAPS and Hewett process pipelines using Grouted Tees which substantially reduced the risk of overrun of installation activities during the respective plant shutdown periods and facilitating an early return to production.

The automations related modifications became increasingly complex as the project progressed and eventually resulted in a variation in scope to provide an additional vent and isolation zone within the timeframe of the main project.

All works were completed successfully before the planned final completion date with no safety or environmental incidents.
