ODE Asset Management celebrates significant milestone for Babbage Platform

21st August, 2020

ODE Asset Management Ltd (ODE AM), part of the DORIS Group, is celebrating 10 years of safe operations for the Babbage platform in the Southern North Sea.

ODE AM has been at the forefront of operations for Babbage since the front end engineering design (FEED) stage and through its entire operational life, providing onshore and offshore support and management, maintenance and integrity management, and logistics and procurement support.

Following completion of the project phase the platform began stand-alone operations and has achieved:

  • zero lost time incidents (LTIs)
  • production availability of around 99.5%
  • zero Safety or Environmentally Critical Elements (SECEs) in current maintenance backlog
  • minimal historical backlog
  • year on year OPEX reductions

ODE AM has maintained a consistent presence through various owner and licence operator transitions, culminating in its recent appointment as installation and pipeline operator on behalf of owners NEO Energy (NEO) and Dana Petroleum.

In addition to providing stability through three ownership transitions, ODE has managed or supported the drilling of several phase II wells, the transition from fully manned to not permanently manned operations, as well as various other upgrades and brownfield modifications in collaboration with ODE’s engineering department.

The Babbage field, which first came onstream in August 2010, is produced via a not permanently-attended installation, 55 miles (86 km) off the east coast of the UK. The installation was de-manned in 2017 and now operates on a manned part-time basis.

Stuart Rees, ODE AM’s Babbage operations manager, said: “We are very proud of our association with Babbage and our contribution to 10 years of safe operations. At the heart of this success lies our people, the consistency of the key personnel both onshore and offshore, our open and honest relationships with the licence operators and our constant striving to continually improve, which has culminated recently with the appointment ODE AM as installation operator.”

Sandy Reid, ODE AM’s managing director, noted: “We are pleased to have contributed to this important milestone. ODE AM actively seeks out opportunities in the oil and gas industry to innovate and improve. We look forward to another 10 years of safe operations and to further developing our relationship with NEO.”

He continued: “We have an operations and maintenance  and installation operator model that is proven in the Southern North Sea. It is based on the principle of maximum value from every asset with zero harm to people or the environment, and can be applied to other assets and regions with similar success.”
